Wembury Parish Council is served by 12 councillors (we currently have one vacancy in the Wembury Ward and one in the Down Thomas Ward) who cover two wards: Wembury and Down Thomas (Down Thomas ward includes Heybrook Bay, Bovisand, Raneleigh, Langdon and Down Thomas).

Staff consist of the Clerk (who is also the Proper Officer) who works 70hrs a month (approx 17.5hrs a week) and a Responsible Financial Officer (RFO) who works 48hrs a month (approx 11hrs a week).

Access: We have no buildings where staff work from, so if you wish to have a meeting, please contact either the member of staff or the councillor and they will arrange a time and place to meet, if appropriate. If needed, we can ensure that the location is suitable for mobility issues and welcome interpreters (including sign language), if needed. If you require any additional assistance or help with accessing any of our facilities, groups or documents please do contact the Clerk who will be happy to help.

Maintenance and repair work on council assets is carried out by our contractors.

What We Do

We are maintaining and improving our assets all the time. They are:

• Wembury Recreation Ground
• Bus shelters in the parish
• Noticeboards in the parish
• Four verges in Wembury village

We also pay for Down Thomas Village Hall’s grass to be cut and welcome requests for grants from the community.

In addition, we are working on:

• Developing a Neighbourhood Plan
• Meeting with relevant higher tier councils regarding Local Government Review that will see a big change in how higher tier services are delivered
• Working with stakeholders of the beaches to support and enhance the beaches
• Applying pressure to outside bodies such as South West Water, to ensure that our community gets the services it needs and deserves
• Updating our Emergency Plan
• Developing plans to build a community facility in the recreation ground which will contain a cafe, toilets and changing rooms
• Working with stakeholders to collaborate and co-ordinate environmental work in the parish and on our assets
• Working with DCC Highways to make improvements to the roads in our parish
• Being a consultee for planning application submitted to SHDC
• Working with our Tree Warden to make sure our planting is as good as it can be, and consulting with them on TPOs
• Running a Road Warden Scheme – the brilliant volunteers fill the smaller potholes in the parish.

Community

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers we run a Community Hub (every Wednesday from 10-1 at Wembury Village Hall. Free to attend) plus

A Friends of Wembury Recreation Ground group to help manage the recreation ground (as and when needed).
