During November at Wembury Point a contractor undertook 5 days worth of mechanical scrub (Gorse, Blackthorn and bramble) cutting. The majority of Wembury Point is managed for its maritime grassland and scrub habitats which are fantastic for wildlife and plants. The scrub should be of different ages to provide the best quality nesting and feeding habitats
for many animals, insects and birds. Â

On Saturday October 3rd we had a great time at the Wembury woods event. The weather was beautiful with the sunlight dappling down through the trees giving the whole area a magical quality. Activities ranged from family den building, wood turning, cooking on a camp fire, slacklining (tightrope walking), fire lighting and woodland art. Over 40 people attending, many staying for the whole day, and had a great time. Look out for this event next year.

Thank you to everybody who joined us for the mini raft building and racing at the first Wembury Wild Wednesday event. We had a great turnout despite the terrible weather forecast and we managed to finish the races and toast some marshmallows before the rain started falling. If you have not managed to join us for the Wild Wednesday events so far don’t miss the final session of the summer holidays at South Milton beach, near Kingsbridge. The event is free and children must be accompanied by an adult.

The recent good weather is certainly making vegetation grow fast and the rangers are busy cutting the footpaths across the property. The South Devon estate stretches from Wembury Point in the West through to Dartmouth in the East.

The mixed weather over the last month has been great for the wild flowers therefore the hedgerows have looked beautiful, despite the varied weather many visitors have been out and about on the stunning South Devon coast.

With the warm weather early this spring visitors flocked to Wembury to take in the scenery and sunshine on the beach, to walk the South West Coast Path, and those slightly braver have already taken to the water, without wetsuits!

All the recent path and step repairs have been completed at Wembury beach and we are pleased with the enhanced access along this section of the South West coast path. The widening of the path and bridge will make this area more accessible for pushchairs and later this year we hope to improve the meadow path making the back of the beach accessible to wheelchairs

Well, the colder wintry weather has finally come but thankfully the high winds of mid January didn’t
cause as much damage as last year. We are still in full flow with our winter works programme, with
plenty of scrub cutting and tree works still to be completed.Â
